What is #jmj?

#jmj is the bigest chatroom on the net where fans of Jean Michel Jarre chats about anything!

What is IRC?

IRC means Internet Relay Chat and is the most spread and also the oldest way to chat on the internet, there's alot of differnet IRC-networks, but the one #jmj is on is called IRCnet.
To get more info about IRC, check the FAQ at irchelp.org, there you can also get a few abbrivations used on IRC, so you can understand the "language" of #jmj and type faster aswell.

How to join?

  1. Connect to a server, you can found out how at IRCnet homepage.
Preferably I would sugest downloading a client like mIRC, and then connect to a IRCnet server
  2. Then join the #jmj chatroom by typing: "/join #jmj"

You can now also join us through the webchat at this site, Jarre.net or through Marko's page Jarre Photobase, all are Web-based Java-applets.

What language do we use in #jmj?

In #jmj we talk in English, other languages may be used for private chats off channel though.

What topics are to be discussed in #jmj?

It's a chat for the fans of Jean Michel Jarre, meaning every topic is allowed, since it's self-moderated. Though if there's something new happening in the Jarre-world, be sure to be in #jmj, since the news use to come there quite fast. Around events, like concerts / album-releases there's most posibility for there to be any JMJ-related topics in the channel.

What should I avoid in #jmj & why in that case?

  • Questions on a specular level, like: Does JMJ play Live? - Since everyone seems to have a opinion about this, there's a big chance discusions get out of hand by discusing things noone realy knows for 100% sure more than JMJ himself.
  • Never ask for OP (@), since if you deserver op a operator will give you it when you're ready.
  • Try not use offencive language to people, after all we all wants to try to be friend on #jmj, aren't we?

When did #jmj open & who opened it?

As far as known the room was opened in the early 1990's. More info would be appreciated though

Why is #jmj empty all the time when I join?

Most likely you're connected to a server not connected to IRCnet, try a server within IRCnet and you'll likely see a few users.

Why does nobody talk to me, even if there is more than me in #jmj?

Not always people in there who's free to chat, but still online, just show you're willing to chat and you would most likely get a reply.

Who is who in #jmj?

Most of the users in #jmj are registered in the DB of this site, check them by nickname or by realname. Though some have choosen to stay anonymous.

I've also thought of having some JMJ-related questions and answers, but since I'm far from the bigest expert on thoose, I would love to get sugestions, on both questions and answers..
